Old Town

At the heart of Park City lies the gem that is Main Street, the Historic street that was established amongst the mining boom of the late 1800's, that is now home to restaurants, shopping, and tons of apres ski fun. A trip to Park City isn't complete without a trip to Main Street.

What today is a bustling shopping and dining area in the heart of Park City actually got its start as the home to the miners who travelled from Salt Lake City to give the town of Park City (first called Parley's Park City) its start.Ā  Just driving around Historic Old Town, you get a sense of the mining community that first took hold of the town in the late 1800s, as many historic miner's cottages have been preserved (with insistence from the Park City Historical Society) still to this day.

Nestled on a relatively steep and hilly area (probably not the best city planning idea for the time), Old Town offers a wonderful scenery of almost Christmas-like cottages and homes during the snowy months.Ā  Another noteworthy landmark is the old Miner's Hospital at City Park (at the bottom of Park Ave), which today serves as a community space for non-profits, corporate events, etc.

Historic Old Town also holds a somewhat seedy past, as brothels and saloons popped up in the "red light district" on Main Street; quite a difference from the generally conservative nature of Salt Lake City that was being established by the early Mormon settlers.Ā  No Name Saloon was actually established in the early 1930's and by the late 1930's had added an extra line of revenue - a brothel in the upstairs storage room!

Today the energy of Main Street is infectious and many could spend all day perusing the cute shops, cafes, bars, and art galleries that adorn the charming road.Ā  In the summertime the Park Silly Sunday Market brings vendors, food, drinks, and live music every Sunday.Ā  Christmastime is of course a wonderful time to stroll Main Street looking for Christmas presents and ringing in the holidays with a cocktail.

If you're looking for some nightlife fun on Main Street, we locals lovingly refer to the 3 main bars in town as the "Barmuda Triangle."Ā  The Spur, The Cabin, and No Name Saloon and the typical haunts if you're looking for a party.Ā  Then, during ski season, many bar-goers will finish their night at the only "nightclub" in town - The Downstairs - which stays open about 30 minutes later that the other spots.
